Locus Framework
Contemporary dance practitioner and teacher introduced me for Locus Dance framework. We first explored it taking an embodied experience. Then together we created a sequence composed by the letters of our names. We found that given the spatial nature of this framework, we can integrate with a motion capture system which we later explored in my PhD work as well. Later inspired by this work, I started guiding a student team, supervised by myself to work on a web based locus framework.
The Locus framework, developed by choreographer Trisha Brown, offers a structured improvisational method that allows dancers freedom within a defined set of spatial limits. In Locus, dancers use their bodies to map imaginary points in a cube, moving in response to these coordinates, which serve as guides. This approach supports creative exploration and encourages unique movement sequences while remaining within a structured framework, creating a dynamic interplay between constraint and freedom. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Locus gained renewed attention for its adaptability to restricted spaces, demonstrating its relevance in confined or altered environments.
